Ultimate Vegan Burger

We LOVE burgers! And it took us quite a while to find a perfect replacement for the hamburgers we used to eat. We tried so many recipes throughout the year but never were really happy with them. Every other favorite dish of ours had a perfect vegan replacement - except for burgers...

But finally - last weekend, we found the perfect ingredients for a fantastic, juicy vegan burger. The best about this recipe, is that you can form the veggie patties perfectly and they won't fall apart in the pan. Here's our recipe:

For the burger you'll need

  • 1 can of red beans (if you use dried beans, you need to soak them for 12 hours in advance - the already soaked beans work fine)

  • 1 cup whole-wheat oats

  • 1 Peperoncini (or Chili)

  • 1/2 garlic clove

  • 1/2 lime (juice)

  • A dash of Algave sirup

  • Vegan buillon

  • 2 tablespoons flax seeds

  • Salt

  • Pepper

  • Habañero spice

The guacamole is made of

  • 1 avocado

  • 1/2 red onion

  • 1/2 garlic clove

  • 1/2 lime (juice)

  • Salt

  • Pepper

And then you'll need

  •  Tomatos

  • Mango Chutney (make yourself or buy)

  • cress

  • vegan bread rolls (make yourself or buy)

Ok, so now you've got the ingredients. Next up is mixing everything:

  1. Rinse the beans

  2. Soak the flax seeds in 5 tablespoons of lukewarm water for 15 minutes

  3. Add flax seeds, beans and all the remaining ingredients of the burger into a mixer. If you don't have a blender, you can also use a good hand blender.

  4. Form your patties.

  5. Add some olive oil or coconut oil to your pan. Heat up to medium heat (about level 4).

  6. Gently roast the patties for about 8 minutes per side.

  7. Dice your avocado and add the onion, garlic, lime, salt and pepper.

  8. Dice the tomatos.

  9. Bake your bread.

  10. Create your perfect burger and stack it as you like.

We spreaded the mango chutney on both halfs of the bread. Then placed the patty, added the guacamole, tomatos and cress. Et voilà - there you have your delicious, cruelty-free burger. It goes really well with homemade sweet potato fries. Just cut them up really thin (or just as you like them), toss them in a bit of olive oil with some herbs and spices and make them in the oven for about 20-25 minutes at 200°C.

Hope you'll enjoy this amazing vegan burger just as much as we did. Let us know, if you tried it and how you liked it :-)
